In the Old Testament, we find significant metaphors such as the images of the bridegroom and the bride, as well as that of the shepherd and the sheep. As we move into the New Testament, we find Jesus identifying Himself as both the bridegroom of the people of Israel, as indicated in Mark 2:19, and the compassionate shepherd, as indicated in John 10:11. Given His declaration as the bridegroom of the Israelites, it’s natural that this metaphorical portrayal of Jesus continues in the New Testament. A vivid example of this is found in the account of the wedding feast at Cana in John 2, where Jesus is revealed as the bridegroom of the people of Israel. The story of the wedding feast at Cana is not simply about the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine but also throws the message that He is the bridegroom of the Israelites as expressed in the Old Testament.
